Abstract | Intisari

The writing of this final project was made using the hand lay-up method. The purpose of this study was to determine the manufacturing process, the difference in the mechanical properties of the compressive stress and the differences in the density of WR 185 fiberglass fiber composites with variations of 1 layer, 2 layers and 3 layers. The manufacture of WR 185 fiberglass fiber composites is made of resin and fiber with a ratio of 40: 60, the ratio of resin to hardener is 3: 1 in the theme of this research, the method of density and compression testing, density is used to determine the physical properties of a material and press to determine the selection area , maximum point stress, elastic modulus, and break point strain (% GL). The results of density testing on WR 185 fiberglass fiber composites are density with the highest value of 1.152 g / cm3 (layer 3) and the lowest value of 1.106 g / cm3 (layer 1) because it has the lightest properties, namely fiber variation 3 layers because it has a density value that is higher than the variation of 1 layer and 2 layer fibers. And the results of the compressive test with the highest elastic modulus value are 8897.4 MPa (layer 3) and the lowest value is 4639.5 MPa (layer 2). Composites that have the most brittle properties are composites with 3-layer fiber variations because their compressive mechanical properties are better and have higher elastic modulus values compared to variations of 1 layer and 2 layers. The average value of ultimate strength and elastic modulus value in this study were higher when compared to research on jute fiber composites with lycal matrix variations of 1,2 and 3 layers.
