Abstract | Intisari
This research purpose is to find out how change affects in vortex generator twisted tape insert geometry variations in twist ratio (P/W) to the coefficient of overall heat transfer, pressure drop, and the effectiveness of heat exchanger in heating air to be used to overcome icing on carburetor. This study used a 2000 W 1-cylinder generator engine simulated as a replacement for the aircraft engine piston as an exhaust gas producer and with variations in loading using incandescent lamps of 0 W to 400 W as well as twist variations conditioned in shell and tube heat exchangers. Vortex generator twisted tape insert in this research is made of aluminum that is inserted into the tube of heat exchanger to make the flow inside the tube become turbulent and can release heat well so that it can heat the air on the shell well, with variation twist ratio (P/W) namely P/W 5.6, P/W 6.8, and P/W 8.6. At the time of taking the research data there is a treatment of loading using incandescent lamps and every single load of time taken there are 3 variations of 25, 50, and 75 seconds. The results showed that the influence of changes geometry variation vortex generator twisted tape insert on twist ratio (P/W) on overall heat transfer coefficient, pressure drop, and heat exchanger effectiveness. Heat exchanger parameters increase with smaller twist ratio (P/W). Heat flow on the tube that utilizes the waste heat exhaust engine by using heat exchanger shell and tube heat exchanger provides the effect of complete heat transfer, pressure drop and effectiveness in heating the air on the shell in preventing the occurrence of icing on the carburetor. The conclusion of this research shows that the use of geometric variations of vortex generator twisted tape insert with twist ratio (P/W) 5.8 or the smallest twist ratio is best compared to the twist ratio 6.8 and 8.2 in heat exchanger shell and tube in heating the air to be used to prevent the occurrence of icing on the carburetor of piston engine aircraft, with a overall heat trasfer coefficient (U0) value of 45.8 W/m2.oC, pressure drop (P) value of 21.0 Pa,and effectiveness (ε) value of 74.6%.
